RANDY MOMII ART

I have great respect for the art of bonsai. In my paintings, I strive to evoke the patience and determination of the designer to adapt, cultivate and shape each tree into a work of art that looks completely natural. I highlight the beautiful twists and turns of the trunk and branches, the shape of the container, and the treatment of the foliage, all to draw the viewer into a state of calm and reflection.

I work with acrylic paints on watercolor paper—at a size I find comfortable. My studio is outdoors under a canopy, next to a room of my house. I have to wheel out my supplies every day and set up. It is a ritual to set my mind straight and prepare in my head what I am doing that day. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
